Born in 1993, fifteen years after Miuccia Prada took over her family’s business, Miu Miu emerged as a more playful and unrestrained counterpart to Prada. Affectionately named after Miuccia's family nickname, the label became a playground for experimentation where she could explore a freer, more personal interpretation of femininity.

Over time, the term “Miu Miu girl” became closely associated with the brand. Rather than a fixed identity, a Miu Miu girl is a fluid archetype representing modern girlhood. She can be someone who is innocent yet mischievous, polished yet disheveled, confident yet vulnerable. The gendered term is ultimately more about attitude than biological characteristics. It represents an identity where imperfection, curiosity, individuality, and emotional complexity can co-exist. On the runway, this is embodied by Miuccia's roster of muses, from Sydney Sweeney and FKA Twigs to Momo Hirai, Emma Corrin, Gigi Hadid, and Troye Sivan, who each brought their own personification to the archetype.

For Autumn/Winter 2021, Miu Miu presented the collection as a cinematic film set in the snow-covered Dolomites. Following women traveling together as part of the imagined “Miu Miu Mountain Club”. The journey emphasized the collective courage and shared sense of kinship of women as they traversed a harsh environment toward an unknown, shared goal.

The garments perfectly mirrored the emotional tension of youths emerging from a year of confinement, where the desire to dress up felt stronger than ever. Miuccia balanced intimate silk dresses and lingerie with protective, functional mountaineering gear, and this juxtaposition of vulnerability and protection was surprisingly liberating.
