"I'm a woman and know how women feel. This is what I have going for me. My father can't compete with that."
Despite being the daughter of Yohji Yamamoto, Limi Yamamoto was not raised within the fashion industry. After her parents divorced when she was two, she grew up largely removed from her father’s world, with little exposure to fashion and no early ambition to become a designer. Everything changed in her final year of high school, when Yohji brought her to New York to see his runway show. Witnessing his work for the first time, Limi was overwhelmed and moved to tears. In that pivotal moment, she resolved to pursue a career in fashion.
She graduated from Bunka Fashion College and began her journey as a pattern maker for Y’s. In 2000, she debuted her brand Y’s Bis in Tokyo, establishing a voice that was distinctly her own. The label was later renamed LIMI feu, which translates to “fire” in French, signaling independence and further distancing her work from the Yamamoto name.
Limi designs with empowering working women in mind. Creating affordable clothes that challenge the conventional standards of Japanese femininity. Unlike her father, she focuses on how women would actually live and dress rather than abstracting an "ideal" look for women. Drawing from punk and street culture, her garments emphasize wearability and are designed to be layered and modular.
This set of seven pearl necklaces comes in a range of sizes and designs, allowing you to wear all seven at once or one for each day of the week.
